India Takes Strong Stance at UN Security Council: Accuses Pakistan of Human Rights Violations, Calls for Urgent Reforms

News Desk, Asom barta, October 25: During a debate at the United Nations Security Council on Friday, India’s Permanent Representative, Parvathaneni Harish, sharply responded to Pakistan’s envoy, leveling serious allegations against the country. Harish stated that Pakistan considers democracy an “alien concept” and continues to perpetrate human rights violations in illegally occupied territories. He strongly condemned the ongoing human rights abuses in Pakistan-occupied regions and demanded an immediate end to such actions.

Highlighting the 80-year history of the UN Security Council, Harish emphasized the urgent need for its reform. He noted that the Council, established based on the geopolitical realities of 1945, is inadequate to address the global challenges of 2025. He called for the expansion of both permanent and non-permanent seats through timely and documented discussions to reform the Council.

Harish stressed the necessity of amplifying the voice of the Global South in global decision-making processes. He clarified that delays in reforms would harm the people of developing nations, who face critical issues such as poverty, climate change, and financial aid. He underscored that global decisions must be made in a transparent and democratic manner.

Reiterating India’s commitment to multilateralism, Harish urged the United Nations to become more effective in addressing global challenges like pandemics, terrorism, and economic instability. He cautioned that international cooperation is increasingly viewed as charity, and limited access to resources and technology is hindering prosperity.

Advocating for a stronger UN peacekeeping force equipped with practical mandates and technical support, Harish called for the revitalization of the UN General Assembly as the primary policy-making body. He also emphasized the need for better coordination with the Security Council to uphold the principles of the UN Charter.

Warning against the misuse of the UN for divisive politics, Harish referenced India’s philosophical principle of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” (the world is one family). He urged all member states to unite and work toward reforming the United Nations to address the challenges of the new era for the global common good.

India’s firm stance at the debate reflects its commitment and resolve to advocate for reform on the global stage.
