Dhaka, January 12, 2026 — In yet another tragic incident highlighting concerns over violence against minority communities in Bangladesh, 28-year-old Hindu auto-rickshaw driver Samir Kumar Das (also known as Samir Chandra Das or Sameer Das) was beaten and stabbed to death on Sunday evening, January 11, 2026.
The brutal attack occurred in Daganbhuiyan Upazila of Feni district (Chittagong division), where miscreants assaulted the victim with country-made weapons before fleeing with his battery-operated CNG auto-rickshaw.
According to police and local reports, Samir Das, son of Kartik Kumar Das and Rina Rani Das from Ramanandapur village, had been supporting his family by driving the auto-rickshaw for years. When he failed to return home by late afternoon on Sunday, his worried family launched a search across the area and alerted the authorities.
Around 2 AM on Monday, locals discovered his blood-soaked and battered body near Dakshin Karimpur Muhuri Bari, close to the Daganbhuiyan Upazila Health Complex.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Fayazul Azim of Daganbhuiyan Police Station confirmed that an investigation is underway. Police are probing all angles, including whether the primary motive was robbery of the vehicle or if other factors were involved. Initial findings suggest the murder was pre-planned, with the victim beaten and stabbed repeatedly.
This latest killing has intensified fears among Bangladesh’s Hindu minority amid reports of a series of similar attacks in recent months. Rights groups and community leaders continue to call for stronger protection measures and swift justice.
Authorities have urged anyone with information to come forward as the search for the perpetrators continues.
