New Delhi, January 13, 2026 – In a landmark move to prioritize the safety of delivery riders, the Government of India has effectively prohibited quick commerce and food delivery platforms from promoting 10-minute delivery guarantees. This decision addresses long-standing concerns that ultra-fast timelines were forcing gig workers to ride recklessly, resulting in frequent accidents and hazardous conditions.

Union Labour Minister Mansukh Mandaviya personally intervened, holding key discussions with senior executives from major players including Blinkit, Zepto, Swiggy, and Zomato. The Minister urged companies to immediately remove any references to strict delivery time commitments from branding, advertisements, social media, and apps.
All platforms assured compliance, agreeing to shift focus from speed-based marketing to worker welfare.
Blinkit has already acted swiftly, eliminating its famous “10-minute delivery” claim. The brand updated its messaging — for example, replacing “10,000+ products delivered in 10 minutes” with “30,000+ products delivered at your doorstep”.

This government action follows massive nationwide strikes by gig workers on December 25 and December 31, 2025. Thousands of delivery partners, backed by unions like the Indian Federation of App-Based Transport Workers (IFAT), protested demanding fair pay, social security, and an end to unsafe 10-minute pressure targets.
