Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi has strongly refuted BJP’s allegations linking his wife to Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), calling them baseless and politically motivated. Responding with a sharp retort, Gogoi quipped, “If Salman Khan’s wife can be an ISI agent like in *Tiger Zinda Hai*, then I must be a RAW agent too.” The statement came during an event in Nalbari, Assam, where he addressed the accusations and outlined Congress’ strategy for the upcoming elections.
The controversy erupted after BJP spokesperson Kishor Upadhyay claimed that Gogoi’s wife, Elizabeth Gogoi, had worked in Islamabad under Tauqir Sheikh, a key advisor to Pakistan’s Planning Commission. Upadhyay emphasized the need for a thorough investigation, citing national security concerns. The BJP also alleged a pattern of foreign affiliations within the Congress party, referencing past accusations of funding from George Soros and ties to Pakistani officials.
Gogoi dismissed the allegations as a smear campaign and shifted focus to Congress’ electoral plans. Speaking at the residence of Borkhetri MLA Diganta Barman in Nalbari, he affirmed the party’s commitment to forming alliances with opposition forces for the 2026 Assembly elections. He also stressed the importance of strengthening Congress’ presence in the upcoming Panchayat polls.
The BJP Assam Pradesh has called for a legal probe into the matter, urging Gogoi to provide a detailed public clarification. As the political tussle intensifies, the allegations have sparked a heated debate, with both parties gearing up for a contentious electoral battle in the coming years.
