Guwahati, January 8, 2026 – Assam is set to make history as the iconic FIFA World Cup Trophy visits the state for the first time, returning to India after 12 years. Football fans in Guwahati will get a rare opportunity to see the world’s most coveted sports prize up close at Barsapara Stadium on January 13.
Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Nandita Gorlosa announced the exciting news at a press conference held at Bhogeshwari Phukanani Indoor Stadium in Dispur. The trophy will be on public display starting at 3 p.m., with free entry for all enthusiasts.
The highlight of the day will be the official inauguration ceremony at 8:30 p.m., presided over by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Adding to the festivities, a vibrant cultural programme will kick off at 3 p.m. on the Coke Studio stage, featuring performances by popular singers Shankuraj and Rito Riba.
The FIFA World Cup 2026 Trophy Tour in Assam aims to inspire young and aspiring footballers, boost grassroots sports development, and highlight the state’s rising prominence in India’s sports ecosystem.
