China Renames Arunachal Places Again; CM Khandu Slams Move, Lauds Centre’s Stand

Itanagar, May 17: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu has condemned China’s latest move to rename locations within Arunachal Pradesh, calling it “preposterous” and reiterating India’s sovereignty over the region. This marks the fifth instance of China attempting to rename areas in the Indian state, a move New Delhi has consistently denounced.

“I have seen in the media that China has attempted to rename a few places in Arunachal Pradesh. It’s not new for us; China has done this for the fifth time. Our MEA has already condemned it, and I do the same on behalf of the people and government of Arunachal Pradesh,” Khandu stated.

The Chief Minister also praised the central government’s strong response to terrorism, expressing gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the armed forces. “I thank PM Modi and our armed forces for giving a befitting reply to terrorists in Pakistan,” he said.

Khandu highlighted India’s active international engagement, particularly in countering global narratives on terrorism. Emphasizing national unity, he added, “When we go outside the country, we represent India, not any political party. Domestic politics should not be discussed at the international level.”

He credited India’s development progress post-2014 to PM Modi’s leadership. “Despite our cultural and economic strength, India lacked direction for 60 years. Since 2014, under PM Modi, India has found its way forward,” he noted.

Discussing Arunachal Pradesh’s development roadmap under the Viksit Bharat 2047 vision, Khandu emphasized hydropower as a major asset. “Almost 40-50% of India’s hydro power potential lies in Arunachal Pradesh,” he said.

Khandu also spoke about the ongoing training program for BJP MLAs in the state. “All BJP MLAs are undergoing a 4-day training. Unlike other parties, we focus on nation-building first, then the party, and lastly individuals,” he stated, highlighting the Arunachal Pradesh Legislators Prashikshan Sibir.
