Bijni, Chirang, January 10, 2026 — The second day of the prestigious 65th Annual Conference of the Bodo Sahitya Sabha (BSS) unfolded with traditional dignity and emotional resonance at Thengphakhri Field, Barlaogaon, under Bijni subdivision in Chirang district, Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), Assam.
Dr. Surath Narzary, President of the Bodo Sahitya Sabha, ceremonially hoisted the official BSS flag, reaffirming the organisation’s longstanding dedication to the preservation, promotion, and development of Bodo language, literature, and cultural heritage.
The morning programme included poignant tributes to departed luminaries of the Bodo literary movement. Vice President Chitaram Basumatary performed Shohid Tarpan (homage to martyrs), while Vice President Prashant Boro offered Smriti Tarpan (tribute to the departed). A one-minute silence was observed in respectful memory of all deceased members and contributors.
The three-day conference (January 9–11, 2026) has attracted large gatherings of writers, scholars, cultural activists, and delegates from across the country and abroad. The venue is bustling with cultural performances, book exhibitions, literary discussions, seminar sessions, and stalls showcasing Bodo publications and handicrafts.
Key highlight of the evening
The most anticipated event of the day — the Delegates’ Meeting (Representative Assembly) — is scheduled for 7:30 PM today. With multiple contenders staking claim to the post of President for the next three-year term (2026–2029), the election is expected to be held through secret ballot, making it one of the most closely watched moments of the 65th session.
The ongoing conference is being widely regarded as a grand celebration of Bodo identity, language, and collective literary legacy.
