News Desk, Assam Barta, October 29: The Guwahati High Court has issued a strong warning to the Assam government for failing to cancel the appointments of key individuals implicated in the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) cash-for-jobs scam. The court criticized the state for not implementing the recommendations of the Justice (Retd) Biplab Sharma Judicial Commission, noting that despite the commission’s sealed report, all irregular appointments from the 2013 civil and police services examinations remain intact.
The court has directed the government to take immediate action to terminate all such irregular—or cancelable—appointments. It further pointed out that the government’s inaction has allowed several undeserving candidates to continue enjoying high-ranking positions, thereby perpetuating the effects of the APSC scam. These beneficiaries include candidates from both the general and reserved categories.
Specifically, the court named the following individuals still holding prominent posts:
- Assam Civil Service (ACS): Tridip Roy, Nandita Hazarika, Jagadish Brahma, and Vikramaditya Baral
- Assam Police Service (APS): Navanita Sharma, Asima Kalita, Rituraj Dale, and Amritraj Choudhury
The Justice Biplab Sharma Commission had alleged that these officers secured their jobs through fraud and manipulation. Despite clear findings, no action has been taken against them by the government.
The case was argued by Manab Pratim Baruah of Fight Against Judicial Apathy of APSC, who welcomed the court’s proactive intervention. The bench has granted the state government approximately four weeks to cancel all irregular appointments and submit a compliance report.
This ruling has rekindled hope among victims of the APSC scam and reinforced public faith in transparent and merit-based recruitment processes.
