Guwahati, January 5, 2026: In a gesture to honour the 200-year-old heritage of Assam tea, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced a one-time financial assistance of ₹5,000 for each tea garden worker and employee through the state government’s initiative titled ‘Eti Koli Duti Paat’.

Posting on social media, the Chief Minister stated that this aid is part of several historic steps taken by the government to pay tribute to Assam tea’s bicentennial legacy. He wrote: “In reverence to the 200-year heritage of Assam tea, our government has already undertaken several historic initiatives. Taking this effort one step further, through the ‘Eti Koli Duti Paat’ programme this time, we have decided to provide a one-time assistance of ₹5,000 to all workers and employees of tea gardens.”

According to the Chief Minister, more than 6 lakh workers across the state will benefit from this announcement, which is expected to provide immediate financial relief while recognising the immense contribution of the tea community to Assam’s economy and cultural identity.

He further assured that detailed information regarding the scheme will soon be shared with the tea community. The announcement comes as assembly elections in the state are just a few months away, adding significance to the timing of this welfare measure.
