Guwahati, January 2, 2026: In a scathing attack on the BJP-led Assam government, Raijor Dal president and Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi unveiled a damning white paper on Friday, dubbing it the “economic post-mortem report” of Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma’s five-year rule.
Speaking at a press conference held at his Guwahati residence, Gogoi accused the BJP of failing to deliver meaningful progress despite ruling at the Centre for over a decade and in Assam for more than five years.
The seven-page document compares Assam’s performance with other Indian states across key socio-economic indicators, highlighting the state’s persistently low rankings in per capita income, education, health, and unemployment.
“When will ‘A for ASSAM’ truly represent the top spot? Where does Assam rank among India’s states?” Gogoi questioned, directly challenging CM Sarma’s ambitious claims of transforming Assam into the “number one state” in the country.
He alleged that the government cherry-picks data to mislead the public, while the comprehensive reality exposes deep-rooted backwardness.
“The BJP’s narrative of a ‘top-performing Assam’ is far removed from ground realities,” Gogoi asserted, urging citizens to scrutinize the facts presented in the white paper.
Other Raijor Dal leaders echoed his sentiments, reinforcing criticisms of the government’s economic policies.
Concluding the press meet, Gogoi warned that the people of Assam have now recognized these shortcomings and will deliver a fitting response in due time.
The release has ignited fierce political debate ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections, with anticipation building for a sharp rebuttal from the ruling BJP.
