Zubeen Garg Trust Announced: Late Singer’s Kharghuli Dream Home to Become Nyas for Cultural and Social Legacy
Guwahati, January 2, 2026 – In a poignant move to immortalize the legacy of iconic Assamese singer Zubeen Garg, his family has announced the establishment of the Zubeen Garg Nyas (Trust). The under-construction house in Kharghuli, once envisioned as the artist’s dream home, will now serve as the headquarters for this trust, dedicated to preserving his ideals, unfinished dreams, and contributions to society, culture, and nature.
Zubeen Garg’s wife, Garima Saikia Garg, broke the news during a press conference on Friday – her first public appearance alongside sister Dr. Pamee Borothakur three months after the singer’s tragic demise in September 2025. The trust will be managed by Zubeen’s cousin Manoj Borothakur, senior journalist Gautam Sharma, and police officer Partha Sarathi Mahanta.
Speaking emotionally, Garima stated: “Zubeen Garg is an entity that will forever live in the hearts and souls of Assam and its people. We must preserve his dreams, work, dedication, creations, ideals, and beliefs for all time.” She emphasized that the Nyas will carry forward Zubeen’s vision for society, culture, nature, and the younger generation, with the Kharghuli property dedicated as the first step.
The trust will continue initiatives close to Zubeen’s heart, including social and cultural activities through the Kalaguru Artist Foundation and youth programs via the Abhinaya: Jongki Borothakur Performing Arts Centre, established in his sister’s name. Plans also include scientific preservation of his intellectual property and a dedicated research wing for academic study of his life, achievements, and cultural impact.
Backed by family, friends, schoolmates, prominent figures from Assam’s social, cultural, administrative, and media circles, as well as the Zubeen Fan Club – which the singer fondly called his “army” – the Nyas seeks public support and blessings in its early stages.
Zubeen Garg, beloved for his soulful voice and massive contributions to Assamese and Bollywood music, passed away at 52, leaving an irreplaceable void in the region’s cultural landscape. This trust aims to ensure his spirit and dreams endure eternally.
