65th Bodo Sahitya Sabha Annual Convention Begins in Bijni, Chirang: CM Himanta Biswa Sarma to Attend Grand Finale
Bijni (Chirang), January 9, 2026: The 65th Annual Convention of the Bodo Sahitya Sabha, the premier literary body promoting Bodo language and culture, kicked off today with a vibrant three-day programme at the Thengfakhri Playground in Borolaogaon, Bijni, Chirang district, Assam.
Organised under the guidance of the Sabha’s central committee, the reception committee, in collaboration with the district committee, has made elaborate arrangements for the event. Over 2,000 delegates are expected to participate, with facilities including accommodation, a massive kitchen serving more than 6,000 people each evening, VIP provisions, ample parking for vehicles, separate toilets, attractive gates and pandals, exhibitions, and a book fair.
The opening day featured several key inaugurations honouring late Bodo luminaries and martyrs:
- BTC Executive Member Dhiraj Borgoyary inaugurated the main gate in memory of late Maheshwar Brahma.
- Chirang District Commissioner Jatin Bora unveiled the main pandal commemorating late Padmalochan Brahma.
- Phulicharan Basumatary, founder president of the Bijni District Committee, opened the main stage in memory of Sanjarang Lakshmeshwar Brahma.
- Other structures, including delegate rooms, volunteer camps, exhibition gates, dining halls, and guest houses, were inaugurated by prominent figures like BTC councillors, police officials, and college principals.
Delegate registration began alongside the opening of separate male and female camps, health facilities, and an open market.
The afternoon session included a discussion on “From Dreams to Destination: Strategies for Success in Competitive Examinations”, chaired by retired IAS officer Hemant Narzary and inaugurated by Block Development Officer Charan Narzary.
Evening highlights featured a poetry recital, followed by a seminar on “Contours of Change: Exploring Contemporary Socio-Economic Life of the Bodos”, chaired by Bijni College Principal Dr. Birhash Giri Basumatary. The day concluded with the first delegates’ meeting and the inauguration of the cultural evening stage by retired headmaster Suniti Basumatary.
Detailed programmes, including cultural performances and literary discussions, are lined up for the second and third days. The grand open session on the final day (January 11) will be attended by Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma and BTC Chief Hagrama Mohilary.
