Neiphiu Rio, the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) leader, took oath as the Chief Minister of Nagaland for the fifth time on Thursday. The ceremony, held at the Kohima Local Ground, was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and other dignitaries.
Rio’s party, NDPP, along with its ally Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), had won a comfortable majority in the recently concluded Nagaland Assembly elections. Rio’s re-election as Chief Minister marks a significant moment in the state’s political history.
In his speech, PM Modi praised Rio’s leadership and his commitment to the development of Nagaland. He also reiterated the central government’s commitment to the development of the Northeast region.
Amit Shah, who also addressed the gathering, congratulated Rio and his team and stressed the importance of a stable government in Nagaland.
The ceremony was marked by traditional cultural performances, showcasing the diversity and richness of Nagaland’s culture.
Rio’s fifth term as Chief Minister comes at a time when Nagaland is facing multiple challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic and the ongoing Naga peace talks. His leadership and experience will be crucial in steering the state towards a brighter future.
