DOOMDOOMA, June 9 :- In a resounding commitment to environmental stewardship and community engagement, the Indian Army organized a series of events across Tinsukia district on the occasion of World Environment Day. These initiatives aimed to foster awareness about environmental conservation and sustainability among local communities and school children.
Comprehensive events were conducted at various locations to include Kordoiguri High School in collaborated events with Gorkha Mahila Samiti at Lekhapani alongside the local community of Tinsukia. The event witnessed participation of 200 students, teaching staff, and locals. A lecture on this year’s theme of World Environment Day ‘Land Restoration, Desertification, and Drought Resilience’ provided in-depth insights into pressing environmental issues like deforestation, global warming and waste management. Emphasizing the three R’s – Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle, the lecture significantly impacted attendees, motivating them towards environmental conservation. The event concluded with the plantation of 500 tree saplings and a cleanliness drive, reinforcing the commitment to environmental health.
The day was also observed at St. Mary’s Higher Secondary School, Doomdooma. On this occasion saplings were planted in the school campus by the principal of the school Sister Martha Telen, vice principal of the school Sister Kaini Caroline and the teachers. A poster drawing and placard making competitions on the themes related to environment were organised among the students.
The Aryabhatta Science Centre of Itakhooli Block in association with several other organisations also organised the World Environment Day. On this occasion, extensive tree plantation programme was carried out which was inaugurated by Robin Kurmi, the Block Coordinator of ASC, Itakhooli Block. A good number of students, teachers and local public participated in the tree plantation programme.
