Significance of Karwa Chauth

Karwa Chauth is a celebration of the unbreakable bond between a husband and wife. It is a day for women to express their love and devotion to their husbands. The fast is also believed to bring good luck and prosperity to the family.

Karwa Chauth Rituals

On the morning of Karwa Chauth, women wake up early and prepare a pre-dawn meal for themselves. This meal is called sargi and is given to them by their mothers-in-law. After eating sargi, women begin their fast.

They spend the day listening to stories about Karwa Chauth, singing devotional songs, and playing games. In the evening, they dress up in their finest clothes and jewelry.

When the moon rises, women offer their prayers to the moon goddess, Chandrama. They also offer water and food to their husbands. After their husbands break their fast, women break their own fast.

Karwa Chauth Traditions

Karwa Chauth is a time for families to come together and celebrate. In the evening, women gather at their in-laws’ houses to listen to stories about Karwa Chauth and to play games.

They also exchange gifts with each other. Women often give their mothers-in-law saris and other expensive gifts.

Karwa Chauth Today

Karwa Chauth is still a popular festival today. It is a time for women to celebrate their marriages and to express their love and devotion to their husbands. The festival is also a time for families to come together and to celebrate their bonds.

In recent years, there has been a trend of men also observing the Karwa Chauth fast to show their support for their wives. This is a positive development, as it shows that the festival is no longer just about women’s devotion to their husbands, but also about the mutual love and respect between couples.
