The Delhi Police have detained three boys, including one minor, in connection with a Holi harassment incident that went viral on social media. In the incident, a Japanese woman was subjected to abuse by a group of men in the Paharganj neighbourhood of Delhi.
The woman initially posted the footage on Twitter before having it removed. The police launched an investigation and identified the boys seen in the video. The youths have admitted to the occurrence depicted in the video.
The woman has not filed a complaint with either the Japanese embassy or the Delhi Police, but future legal action will be considered on its merits and in compliance with the girl’s allegation if any.
The National Commission for Women chairman Rekha Sharma had already written to Delhi Police to “quickly register an FIR in the matter.” Bollywood actor Richa Chadha and the head of the Delhi Commission for Women, Swati Maliwal, responded to the video and labelled it “totally despicable behavior.”
