CBI Arrests Bhartia Infra Project Limited’s Chairperson and Three Others in Railway Contract Scam

In a significant development, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken action against corruption by arresting four individuals, including the chairperson of Bhartia Infra Project Limited, in connection with a Railways contract scam. The arrests took place in Guwahati, Assam, following a 12-member team’s raids at multiple locations in the city to investigate allegations of bribery for securing railway contracts.

The accused have been identified as Ramavtar Bhartia, Abhinash Bhartia, Pawan Kumar Bhartia, and Shankar Prasad Mor, with Ramavtar Bhartia holding the position of chairperson in the company. During the extensive operation, the CBI team also conducted searches at the suspects’ residences and other company offices, leading to the seizure of crucial documents pertaining to the firm.

The investigation revealed that the accused allegedly resorted to unethical means by bribing officials to secure lucrative railway track repair and maintenance contracts across the region. This illegal practice not only compromised the integrity of the contracting process but also raised concerns about the mismanagement of funds by the company.

As the case unfolds, several other individuals have also been arrested in connection with the scam, indicating the severity of the issue and the comprehensive nature of the ongoing investigation. The court has remanded the accused to four-day CBI custody to further delve into the details of the fraud.

This high-profile case serves as a reminder of the vigilance and determination of the CBI in tackling corruption and malpractices, and underscores the importance of ensuring transparency and accountability in the country’s infrastructure projects. The authorities’ commitment to upholding the rule of law and prosecuting those involved in fraudulent activities sends a strong message that such unethical practices will not go unpunished.

As the investigation continues, the nation eagerly awaits more updates on the unraveling of the railway contract scam and the measures taken to safeguard the integrity of future projects.
