Three students of Jorhat Institute of Science and Technology (JIST) were stabbed by a youth who came in a car along with his two friends on Tuesday evening. Jorhat superintendent of police Mohan Lal Meena, told, “The JIST students were walking around the evening on the national highway service lane, when a four-wheeler came honked from behind.
Soon, a scuffle broke out between the two groups over right of way. One of the passengers came out of the car and attacked the students with a small knife, following which one of them was seriously injured. We have apprehended two accused but the person who attacked with the knife is absconding.”
The police officer added that of the three accused, one is a juvenile and rest two are adults. They have been identified as Siddharth Borah from Jorhat and Pappu Payeng from Majuli district. A case number 248/22 under sections 279, 307, 34, 341, 326 IPC has been registered in Teok Police Station.
All three students – Suraj Debojit Deori, Raktim Roshan Gogoi and Partha Pratim Hazarika, studying in the fifth semester undergraduate (BSc) course in Physics- have been admitted to Jorhat Medical College and Hospital for treatment. Partha Pratim has undergone surgery and is admitted in the ICU of the hospital.
